     Course Description

Introduction to advanced machine learning with emphasis on applications in computer vision. The topics include an overview of classical Bayesian decision theory, basics of the Vapnik – Chervonenkis theory of empirical risk minimization, probability density estimation techniques including the Expectation--Maximization algorithm, recent exact and approximate techniques for Bayesian maximum a posteriori (MAP) estimation of a hidden Markov model, and wide margin classification techniques.
